Lounge chairs line the poolside, providing a tranquil spot for relaxation and soaking up the sun. Morant has played his entire NBA career thus far with the Grizzlies, so it is no surprise he eventually purchased a home in Tennessee. In 2022, after Morant led Memphis to the second round of the playoffs and earned All-NBA honors, he inked a five-year, $193 million contract extension with the Grizzlies.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms:

According to the Shelby County Register of Deeds, the home was purchased by the Mountain Brook Cove Land Trust #2 for $3.05 million. Wine enthusiasts will rejoice at the inclusion of a meticulously crafted wine cellar. Climate-controlled and expertly designed, it houses an impressive collection of vintages from around the world.

For the citizens of Morant Bay, that was taken from them in the blink of an eye. For some, their homes were literally destroyed and burnt to the ground, but for others, the sanctity of the home was still broken by looting rioters and soldiers, despite the fact that the physical structure remained standing. A correlation number that sits between 0 and 1 indicates that the two words have a direct relationship and follow one another. Throughout the last few weeks, my peers and I have been transcribing testimonies from the Jamaica Royal Commission report, a process and a document that I described in my last blog post.

Morant's off-court troubles seemingly began when he appeared to threaten somebody on Twitter.

Morant’s actions were investigated after a Jan. 29 incident in Memphis that he said led to Pack — someone Morant calls “my brother” — banned from Grizzlies’ home games for a year. He averaged 27.4 points last season, 26.2 points this season and helped Memphis secure the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The local district attorney chose not to charge Morant over the incident, but the teen later filed a lawsuit against Morant, according to TMZ.

Ja Morant, born Temetrius Jamel Morant, is a professional basketball player. Tee and Jamie were college sweethearts, and both played basketball in high school as well as college. Instead of Tee playing professional basketball himself, he decided to become a barber when Ja was born, so that he could stay home with Jamie and raise him together. It’s heartwarming to know that while both Ja’s parents loved playing basketball, he himself went pro and is giving back to them, like when he purchased them an incredibly nice home next to his in Tennessee.

"[Dillon Brooks] started to come at me and I said, 'You don't want these problems,'" Sharpe said shortly after the incident. "And then Ja came out of nowhere talking. He definitely didn't want these problems. Then the dad came and he obviously didn't want no problems. But I wanted anything they had. Don't let these fools fool you now." It was reported that Morant's mother got into an altercation with a mall employee and called Morant who showed up with "a group of as many as nine other people." "Ja's conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous," Silver wrote. In March, Commissioner Adam Silver addressed these issues in the NBA's initial suspension statement.

I love that Ja Morant bought his parents a home, then proceeded to purchase another home right next door. If you enjoyed checking out this Tennessee home, take a look at Garth Brooks’ Tennessee estate here. Memphis Business Journal reports that Morant paid $3.05 million for the property, which is next door to his previous home, which he purchased for $1.3 million in August 2019.

"We [will] sit down and talk to him and guide him through this process," Jenkins told The Athletic. "That's going to be our focal point, on and off the court. The NBA said they could not show that the gun was Morant's or that he had brought the gun with him on the team flight to Denver. Morant grew up in a rural area of South Carolina and went to high school in Sumter, with a population of less than 50,000. Teammate Tyus Jones told The Athletic that Morant is just going through growing pains.

When is the best time to buy luggage?

During a January game against the Indiana Pacers, at least one friend of Morant appeared to get into a verbal altercation with players. Devonte Pack, the same friend accused of also punching the teenager at Morant's house, was seemingly ejected from his seat. According to Molly Hensley-Clancy of The Washington Post, the head of security at a Memphis mall filed a police report saying Morant "threatened" him during an altercation in the parking lot. "Ja Morant's decision to once again wield a firearm on social media is alarming and disconcerting given his similar conduct in March for which he was already suspended eight games," NBA commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. This is the second suspension this year and comes after a second video appeared to show him holding a gun. This was similar to the incident that led to his first suspension, which lasted eight games.

Enter Ja Morant, the renowned NBA player who recently inked a jaw-dropping $193 million contract. Apart from lucrative paychecks, Morant also earns from his endorsement deals. For instance, he signed a multiyear contract with Nike in 2019 worth $12 million, and Morant also has an endorsement deal with Beats By Dre. In both visualizations, the term “house” is surrounded by words with negative connotations– “burn,” “disturbed,” “took,” and “shot.” One’s house is supposed to be a safe place; a refuge and a shelter from the dangers of the outside world.

Morant was only lightly recruited by NCAA Division I programs and unranked by recruiting services, despite having been named All-Region Most Valuable Player three times and earning All-State honors at Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. Nevertheless, he made an immediate impact at Murray State University, earning first-team all-conference honors in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) as a freshman. He had a breakout sophomore season; it saw him win OVC Player of the Year as well as lead the NCAA in assists. As a sophomore, Morant became the first player in NCAA history to average 20-plus points and 10-plus assists per game for a single season.

Morant, who is graces the cover of a recent issue of SLAM, is enjoying a fantastic rookie campaign. However, with sporting leagues around the globe shutting down due to coronavirus, it might be a while before he can finish it. "Go back to your house! Go back to your house. I don't need you over here," his father jokingly responded. It was confirmed that the 23-year-old signed a five-year rookie maximum extension worth £165 million ($193m), which could rise to £197 million ($231m). Just a few weeks on from signing his eye-watering new contract, Morant has seemingly already been out spending his big money. In 2019, the Mountain Brook Cove Land Trust purchased the property next door for $1.334.

First lady Jill Biden unveils this year's White House Christmas decorations

Colorful orchids, a favorite of First Lady Jill Biden, and holiday florals are incorporated throughout the room. The China Room, which was first introduced as a display room by First Lady Edith Wilson in 1917, houses tableware used by past presidential families. Most presidents, beginning with George Washington, are represented by either a personal or State Service of porcelain, glass, or silver. Each piece recalls the State Dinners and celebratory meals that have brought together world leaders and diplomats. The theme of President Joe Biden’s third Christmas in the White House is “Magic, Wonder and Joy.” From oversized candy canes to Santa’s sleigh, the decor nods to several Christmas tales. The ice rink is a new development, as the White House has not featured a holiday skating rink in recent history.

Remarks by Vice President Harris at a Meeting of the U.S. National Space Council

The China Room is decorated to become the "White House Sweet Shop." The White House expects to welcome approximately 100,000 visitors during the holiday season. Throughout the White House grounds are 98 Christmas trees, almost 34,000 ornaments, 72 wreaths and about 142,000 holiday lights. This year’s tree is an 18½ foot Fraser Fir from Fleetwood, North Carolina and stands floor to ceiling, filling the oval room. Every year, the Blue Room’s chandelier is removed to accommodate the Christmas tree’s full height. The East Room features a Neapolitan crèche, or Nativity scene, with over 40 figurines, most dating back to the eighteenth century. First Lady Jill Biden revealed the 2023 White House Christmas decorations in a colorful video that featured dancers decked out in festive costumes.

The bodies of two people have been discovered in the Tisa River near Ukraine's border with Romania, Ukraine's state border guard reported. On Instagram, where the video was posted jointly with Dorrance Dance, many of the comments were also political, but some were less critical. "Why do these people seem to think Dr. Biden was elected president? She is not the one to make policy, these comments are ridiculous. Love this display of talented performers," one person wrote. Some people compared Biden and Trump's videos – while Biden's showcased the boldly decorated White House with elaborately dressed dancers performing their interpretation of "The Nutcracker," Trump's had a more serene vibe, with softer lighting and music. The arrival of the Christmas tree came just hours after President Joe Biden pardoned two turkeys, named Liberty and Bell, in another time-honored White House tradition.

First lady Jill Biden, 72, invited military-connected families to join her Monday afternoon as she received the centerpiece decoration, a longstanding tradition that kicks off several weeks of festivities at the People's House. After delivering a holiday message, Dr. Biden invited the children of National Guard families to a special performance by the cast of the North American tour of Disney’s stage musical, Frozen. This year's annual gingerbread house was created using 40 sheets of cookie and gingerbread dough, 90 pounds of pastillage, 30 pounds of chocolate and 50 pounds of royal icing, the first lady's office said. In the White House's many rooms, visitors will find floating sweet treats, Santa Claus riding his sleigh and the 2023 White House gingerbread house, she said.

The massive tree this year celebrates cheerful scenes, landscapes and neighborhoods from across the country. The Library of Congress provided samples of editions from the past 200 years that are on display along the ground floor corridor. She thanked the "hundreds of volunteer decorators and designers" who made this year's display possible. Glowing candles and stained glass in the Green Room celebrate faith, and holiday craft-making is the theme in the Red Room, where a tradition of featuring cranberries continues. The State Dining Room has been transformed into Santa’s workshop, with elves’ workbenches, stools and ladders circling Christmas trees, and tools and gifts-in-progress rounding out the décor. Jill Biden said it was “so amazing” to see the Christmas tree atop the entrance to the East Wing when they returned Sunday night after spending the Thanksgiving holiday in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

The decor celebrates the 200th anniversary of the classic tale "Twas the Night Before Christmas," Biden said. First lady Jill Biden unveiled the holiday decor Monday and announced this season's theme is "Magic, Wonder, and Joy," which was inspired by how children experience the holidays. Children of these and other military families were also to be treated to a performance by the cast of the North American tour of the Disney musical "Frozen." The White House estimates it will welcome roughly 100,000 visitors throughout the holiday season. The official Christmas tree, an 18-foot-tall Fraser Fir from Fleetwood, N.C., stands in the center of the oval Blue Room during a media preview of the 2023 holiday decorations at the White House on Monday. Each room and design element throughout the White House holiday display encourages you to embrace your inner child, indulge your senses, and delight in the “Magic, Wonder, and Joy” of the season. A Gold Star tree is also on display in the White House, honoring service members who've died for the country and their families.

Reflecting on this year's theme, Biden said magic, wonder and joy can sometimes be hard to find. The State Dining Room has been transformed into Santa's workshop, with elves' workbenches, stools and ladders circling the Christmas trees and tools and gifts-in-progress rounding out the décor. The décor also features likenesses of family cat Willow and dog Commander, who was recently sent away after multiple incidents of biting Secret Service personnel. The 2023 White House Holiday Display is designed to capture the pure, unfiltered delight and imagination of childhood, and encourage visitors to reflect on this time of year with hearts open to the “Magic, Wonder, and Joy” of the season. The White House Historical Association has created the Official White House Christmas Ornament since 1981. Collecting and giving the official ornaments has become a holiday tradition for families across the United States and abroad. On Tuesday, after a busy couple of days ushering in the holiday season, the Bidens plan to travel to Massachusetts to make up for any lost family time and celebrate Thanksgiving later in the week.

Closing out the 2023 White House holiday display is an incredible, eye-catching recreation of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas in the Grand Foyer. Embodying the “Magic, Wonder, and Joy” of the holidays is Santa’s Workshop in the State Dining Room. Elves’ workbenches, stools, and ladders circle the Christmas trees, with tools and gifts-in-progress filling out the decor. Life-sized nutcrackers and dancing ballerinas flank the Christmas trees and reside within the window wells, with festive ribbons and gift tags lining the fireplace. The stunning tree celebrates cheerful scenes, landscapes, and neighborhoods from all across the country, with names of every state, territory, and the District of Columbia, showcased throughout the decor.

"But it's in these times, when we are searching for hope and healing, these points of light, all of them ... the most that we need is each other," she said. "That's when we need each other the most because, you know, children have something to teach us if we're wise enough to listen -- how to remain present, even as a busy world beckons us." Nearly 15,000 feet of ribbon, more than 350 candles and over 22,000 bells were used for the decorations, the White House said.

In her prepared remarks, the first lady said she knows that magic, wonder and joy can be hard to find, especially as the days grow shorter, the weather turns colder "and our hearts grow heavy in the face of a tumultuous world." The dining room is also the customary stage for the gingerbread White House, made using 40 sheets each of sugar cookie dough and gingerbread dough, 90 pounds of pastillage, a cake decorating paste, 30 pounds of chocolate and 50 pounds of royal icing. Throughout the décor are numerous nods to the 200th anniversary of the publication in 1823 of the poem and book "'Twas the Night Before Christmas." The official White House Menorah is on display in the Cross Hall connecting the State Dining Room and the East Room, which is decorated with trees and various advent calendars. The official White House Christmas tree, an 18.5-foot-tall (5.6-meter-tall) Fraser fir, stands in its usual place in the Blue Room.

Russian troops have taken over the village of Novobakhmutivka in Ukraine's Donetsk region, according to the Interfax news agency - citing Russia's defence ministry. Leo Docherty told the UK Defence Journal that in addition to those killed, tens of thousands of people have deserted the Russian military since the start of the war in February 2022. As the largest room in the White House, the East Room has hosted public receptions, ceremonies, bill signings, and other memorable occasions. It also includes Gilbert Stuart’s portrait of George Washington, which First Lady Dolley Madison helped save in 1814 when the White House was about to be set aflame during the War of 1812. The joyful anticipation of the holidays is front and center in the East Room, with Advent calendars counting down the days to Christmas. The decor of the Vermeil Room (French for gilded silver) represents the joy of music and performance during the holidays. More than 300 designers and decorators volunteered to spend last week transforming the executive mansion.

Two people have been injured after Russian strikes in the cities of Kupiansk and Vovchansk, local authorities have said. We can now bring you more from Oleksandr Syrskyi, the chief of Ukraine's armed forces, about the situation on the ground. Earlier we reported that a top Ukrainian general said troops had fallen back from three villages in the east of the country. The only ornament of its kind, the Official White House Christmas Ornament is produced by the White House Historical Association, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, and made in America by a veteran-founded business. Each ornament helps fund the work of the Association’s historians, researchers, and educators to open the doors to the rich history of the “people’s house” for millions of Americans. "Thank you for bringing Jazz and Tap dance to the Whitehouse this Holiday season! It's a scary world right now, but a respite of two truly American art-forms invented in this country is a breath of fresh air," another commented.

President Ford was an eagle scout and an athlete who played on the University of Michigan’s football team. Later the USS Gerald R. Ford, the first-in-class aircraft carrier, was commissioned to honor the thirty-eighth president as the flagship of the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group. These moments are the inspiration for the design of the Official 2023 White House Christmas Ornament. The White House released a fact sheet and was allowing the news media to see all the trees, lights and ornaments before the first lady's event.

A winter wonderland has arrived at the White House, as first lady Jill Biden unveiled this year's decorative theme for the Christmas season on Monday. During the holidays, the Cross Hall features the official White House Menorah, created in 2021 by the White House Executive Residence Carpentry Shop. The menorah was constructed using wood that was removed more than seventy years ago during the Truman-era renovation of the White House. Arranged in the windows are colorful sprays of crystal and prisms, mixed with shimmering fabric and embroidered starbursts to reflect light.

"The Blue Room behind me features the official White House Christmas tree, a stunning creation covered in holiday cheer from across the country," Biden told the crowd. "A vintage passenger train weaves around the tree's base. I know the kids are just going to love it when they visit." "Each room is designed to capture this pure, unfiltered delight and imagination -- to see this season, this time of year through the wondrous, sparkling eyes of children," she said. It's the holiday season at the White House and thousands of feet of ribbon, ornaments and bells are helping mark the occasion. The 25 Best Haunted House Movies of All Time

haunted house movie

But by the time it’s over, and you realize it was a haunted house film all along, you realized that the ghosts of this film are all the more potent, and all the more horrifying. To this day, A Tale of Two Sisters remains the highest-grossing horror film in its native South Korea. In 2002, the movie made history at the Goya Awards—Spain’s version of the Oscars—where it won a total of eight awards, including Best Film. It’s the first film to earn Spain’s highest film honor in which not one word of Spanish is spoken. Originally released as a supposedly real BBC television special, Ghostwatch is best remembered now for the sheer terror it inspired in viewers on Halloween night in 1992, but it’s so much more than that.

Dark Water (

Eerie, beautiful, and full of thoughtful meditation on what we leave behind when we go, Lake Mungo is both a classic ghost story and a dazzling effort by director Joel Anderson to tell that ghost story in ways we’d never seen before. Jordan Peele considers Lake Mungo one of the scariest films he has ever seen, and used it as an inspiration in making Us (2019). Scott is great in the central role, but it’s Peter Medak’s slow-burn horror direction, complete with antique wheelchair and menacing children’s toys, that cements this one as a haunted house classic. Georges Méliès' Le Manoir du diable (1896) deserves much reverence for its impact on scary movies over the years, and even though the silent film is only a few minutes long, The House of the Devil marks the beginning of the horror genre. Released as The Haunted Castle in the United States, Méliès' motion picture is the precursor to all haunted house movies. One of the most enduring images in 21st century horror so far comes from J.A.

The Evil Dead (

The Others also marked the final time Kidman worked with her then-husband, Tom Cruise (executive producer), prior to their divorce. From The Innocents to Paranormal Activity, most of these haunted house movies will have viewers leaving all their lights on at bedtime. Guillermo del Toro is one of horror’s great visual stylists, but even by his standards, Crimson Peak is truly stunning. A classic Gothic romance full of decay, sensuality, and ghosts, it’s a film that feels like stepping into another world, a meditation on certain well-worn tropes that somehow emerges as something entirely new. That’s thanks in part to the trio of stars—Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska—at its core, but the film’s sweeping, chillingly seductive energy is pure del Toro.

The Amityville Horror (

The Uninvited is one of the first full-length haunted house movies, making it a cornerstone model moving forward for all other films to follow. Lucy Muir (Gene Tierney) starts her life anew when she buys a cottage in a quaint, seaside village, but her house is purported to be haunted by a seaman, Capt. Daniel Gregg (Rex Harrison). The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is by far the most romantic of the haunted house films, and its storytelling — rather than fright and fear — makes it one of the top supernatural tales of all time. Very few horror films evoke a creepier vibe than 1963's The Haunting, even with its black-and-white cinematography. Dr. John Markway (Richard Johnson) assembles a team to investigate the paranormal activity of the Hill House in Massachusetts — but escaping the haunt unscathed may prove futile.

Yes, Ghostwatch is a fascinating cultural artifact within the mockumentary subgenre. Yet it’s also a thoroughly engrossing and genuinely frightening haunted house story, the kind of thing that will have you watching it over and over again, looking for all the hidden specters. The UK’s Broadcasting Standards Council reportedly received more than 20,000 phone calls and thousands of letters—all of them angry—following the initial broadcast.

Films in the following century like The Cat and the Canary (1927), The Old Dark House (1932), and Rebecca (1940) certainly presented creepy, decrepit manors, but their walls were haunted by earthly threats. However, The Uninvited (1944) creates the supernatural template by which horror films like The Haunting in Connecticut (2009), Crimson Peak (2015), and Hereditary (2018) still follow today. The next night, Malcolm notices the paranormal activity and tries to move out of the house and leave Kisha. Since he can't sell his house in the current market, they hire Chip, a psychic, to investigate; Chip immediately falls in love with Malcolm.

Bayona’s The Orphanage, a haunted house narrative that features, among other things, the unforgettable specter of a little boy in a cloth mask. Over the course of its runtime, The Orphanage packs in loads of other scares, both otherworldly and existential, cementing its place as one of the best horror films of the last 25 years. Horror icon Guillermo del Toro makes an uncredited cameo in the film, playing a doctor. Richard Matheson’s novel Hell House is a masterclass in pure, straightforward haunted house terror, and John Hough’s film adaptation delivers all that and more.

Natalie Wood portrays Lucy's daughter, Anna, when she's a child, and the actress shot to stardom later that same year by appearing in Miracle on 34th Street. The screenplay for The Ghost and Mrs. Muir was also adapted by Amanda Duff, and she claimed Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn were originally courted to play the lead roles. The Perrons, too, were not just characters, and The Conjuring is based on what happened to them in their Rhode Island home. The Perrons often visited the set while the film was being shot, and Farmiga and Wilson met with the Warrens to further their understanding of the characters they were portraying. The infamous TV scene, with Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke), is well-known, but it's nothing compared to what happens to the television in the last shot of the movie.

The Amityville Horror, a somewhat underrated flick, is based on the real-life Lutz's unsubstantiated claim that the house was actually haunted. The Dutch Colonial-style home still stands in Amityville, but its address has been changed from 112 Ocean Ave. to 108 Ocean in order to throw off curious tourists. Because ghosts and other supernatural beings need a place to rest their weary heads, too.

If you’re looking for the best feature film version, though, look no further than Robert Wise’s psychologically rich, unshakably tense vision from the 1960s. The horror is subtle, but the way Wise’s camera paints with light and shadows will leave you searching every corner for a spirit. Russ Tamblyn, who plays Luke Sannerson—the heir set to inherit Hill House—in the film also appeared in one episode of Netflix's 2018 miniseries, The Haunting of Hill House.

The actor suggested Handley be cast in the role in order to strengthen the bond seen between father and son in the film. While it’s firmly rooted in dark, zany comedy and not horror, Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice remains one of the great haunted house movies thanks to its focus on the expected tropes and how they twist when the perspectives get flipped. Reportedly, Burton’s first choice for the role of Beetlejuice was Sammy Davis Jr. While some horror movies derive thrills and chills from ghosts, goblins, witches, vampires or other kinds of mad killers, others make the setting itself the centerpiece of the plot. The best haunted house movies don't just have to be about houses either — sometimes the genre sets the scene in haunted hotels, hospitals, farmhouses or other buildings where strange secrets lurk in dark corners, attics or basements. If you’ve never seen House, Nobuhiko Obayashi’s 1977 haunted house film, do yourself a favor and just go watch it.

The next night, Kisha gets out of bed in the middle of the night, stands by the bed for several hours, and begins to dance. Malcolm wakes up and follows Kisha to the kitchen, where he catches her eating uncooked food and drinking old milk. Elisabeth Moss stars in this 2007 haunted house flick from Mary Lambert, the director of Pet Sematary. If you don't know what the "tree scene" is, you'll never get that imagery out of your head after watching The Evil Dead for the first time. It's one of the most appalling and unforgettable scenes to appear in any horror film, ever.

The Evil Dead was the feature film debut for both Campbell and his best friend since high school, director Sam Raimi. We Are Still Here is loaded with homages to other horror films, and one of the most obvious is the appearance of the home's original residents, the Dagmars. They look like the vengeful ghosts in John Carpenter's The Fog (1980), and the stair scene is a clear nod to Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) trudging up the staircase in A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). The Others offers scary movie enthusiasts one of the genre's most memorable twists, and it's unlikely the filmmakers really wanted audiences to laugh at the very last shot of the film. It's hard not to chuckle, though, and the comedic moment certainly lends itself to the storytelling.

A Haunted House was released on DVD, Blu-ray, Ultraviolet and digital copy on April 23, 2013. The film is based on Henry James' 1898 horror novella, The Turn of the Screw, and both Truman Capote and William Archibald won the Edgar Allan Poe award for their screenplay. Jack Clayton directed and produced The Innocents, and he later went on to direct Hollywood icon Robert Redford in The Great Gatsby in 1974. The movie cashed in on the found-footage phenomenon that 1999's The Blair Witch Project proved to be a potential gold mine. Paranormal Activity grossed more than $193 million worldwide, and it only cost $15,000 to produce. Steven Spielberg saw the original cut of the film prior to its release in which Katie dies, and convinced Peli to reshoot the more ominous ending where Featherston simply goes missing.

Su-mi is also very protective of her younger sister, Su-yeon (Moon Geun-young). This movie is based on real case files from paranormal investigators, who try to assist a family terrorized by some creepy force lurking in their farmhouse. It's hard to have your car break down on the side of the road and not think about The Changeling. John Russell (George C. Scott) watches helplessly as his wife and daughter are cut down by a tow truck in the snow. Russell moves on and buys a house once owned by the family of Senator Carmichael (Melvyn Douglas), but he soon realizes he's not as alone there as he previously felt.

As Kisha arrives, she accidentally kills Malcolm's dog named Shiloh by running him over with her car. On the first night, Malcolm is constantly awoken with Kisha farting loudly that eventually drives him out of the room. The next morning, when Kisha notices her keys on the floor, she tells Malcolm they might have a ghost. To prove to her wrong, Malcolm has security cameras installed by Dan the Security Man and his brother Bobby. Malcolm tries to have sex with the camera on, but Kisha tells him to turn it off. Before they really start, Malcolm turns the camera back on and records everything.

For example, you might enjoy being an illustrator, which is considered a type of fine artist. Other options might include working in animation, special effects, or crafts. In that case, your goal with a certificate program might not be to secure entry-level work as a beginning graphic designer. Rather, getting a certificate could help you develop additional skills that would be relevant in your current line of work, such as marketing. There may even be a class in which a professor helps you develop an interview-ready portfolio. You would then be able to show this collection of your work to potential employers.

What graphic design courses are best for training and upskilling employees?‎

A newer initiative for this program is individualized mentoring sessions with the instructor. Students receive four one-on-one mentoring sessions where they can receive additional feedback for their portfolio, including for work they’re doing outside of class. If they have questions about concepts they’re not understanding, we can go more in-depth with them. They can also talk about their resume or LinkedIn profile and get advice on applying to jobs. The kinds of work you do for any given design job will depend on the company’s philosophy and organizational structure.

Inside Roman Alonso and Steven Johanknecht's Bohemian-Chic Apartments

In 2019, London ceramicist Ian McIntyre and illustrator John Booth, better known together as Supergroup, designed an uplifting series of flower, cloud, and rainbow sculptures for Hem. This time around, the duo has turned out the equally exuberant Bronto, the Swedish brand’s foray into tableware. These ceramic dinner plates, mugs, and espresso cups accentuate overstated soft edges with saturated shades of green, pink, orange, sand, and yellow. As a cofounder of Commune Design, the Los Angeles firm known for its savvy mixing of vintage chic with high-end handicraft, Steven Johanknecht might be expected to know his Neutras from his Navajo rugs. Hiring a design firm like Commune Design can bring a level of expertise and experience to your project, as well as access to unique resources and suppliers. It can also save time and reduce stress by taking on the responsibilities of managing the project and coordinating with contractors and vendors.

Once we were ready to start work on the Santa Monica location, they were already fully part of the Breadblok team. We also used the stand as an opportunity to fine-tune the proportions of the shelves and pastry cases. When we were finally ready to design the millwork for the store, we were already very familiar with Chloé’s range of products and how best to display them.

Common spaces should be comfortable, inviting, and designed to encourage socializing and sharing. Private spaces should be cozy, tranquil, and designed to promote rest and relaxation. Communal living offers numerous benefits, both on an individual and communal level. Living in a community can reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, enhance social support networks, and increase feelings of belonging and connection.

After gaining fans at local farmers markets by selling from her Commune-designed stand, she wanted her new location on Montana Avenue to evoke a California style with Provençal influences. The AD100 firm responded to the task by creating a comfortable neighborhood café with a light, airy feel that reflects the organic texture of Breadblok’s baked goods. While the bakery is currently only offering takeout due to COVID-19, the café is looking forward to reopening fully after the restrictions are lifted.

The Formations bench is in a Fortuny wool flannel, the BDDW side tables support lamps by Hollywood at Home, the curtains are of a C&C Milano fabric, and the wool rug is from Patterson Flynn Martin. A longtime friend of Johanknecht’s, she became one of his first clients after he founded Commune Design in 2004 with Roman Alonso and Pamela and Ramin Shamshiri (the siblings have since left to found their own firm, Studio Shamshiri). The stand was a great opportunity to bring these artisans into the project early on.

The Lighthouse's communal spaces include a shared kitchen, garden, and cultural center, as well as private apartments that provide residents with personal space and privacy. Inside, too, the house retained many of its original features, from hand-carved ceiling beams to wrought-iron chandeliers and arched doors. But previous renovations had altered the flow of the home, with some rooms chopped in two, and the 1920s tile flooring had been replaced with a patchwork of mismatched materials. “We wanted to make it feel more holistic while still honoring its heritage,” the designer says. In the living room, the sofas, in a Rogers & Goffigon fabric, and armchair, in a Donghia cotton-linen, are all by George Smith; the custom cocktail table is by Commune Design. Thered lacquer–framed mirror is custom, the 1920s Spanish torchiere is from Revival Antiques in Pasadena, the curtains are of a Brunschwig & Fils velvet, and the rug is by Christopher Farr.
